Have you ever heard of Camp Golden Valley in Bostic, NC? It was built originally as a girl scout camp but after sitting empty for quite some time, Jellystone park bought it and turned it into Jellystone's Camp Golden Valley campground. I was actually a girl scout camp counselor there for a summer when I was 18. I have the fondest memories of my time spent there. I've always thought it would be so cool to be able to take my family there and show them where I spent a summer doing all things camp related but figured it would never happen after it closed. I was ecstatic when I saw an advertisement for the new camp last spring. I knew I just had to make a reservation. We went for a weekend in July and it was everything I hoped it would be and more!
There are still the original cabins, canvas tents and treehouses but they have been updated with AC and electricity. They even have a coffee maker and TV. Some cabins have indoor bathrooms but we stayed in a mountain view treehouse with a detached private bathroom. It was the best of both worlds.
Each camping spot has its own fire ring and charcoal grill. Plus an outdoor fridge with sink and 2 burners.
Some of the new enhancements added since Jellystone bought the camp are a jump pad, playground, pool with kids splash zone, tavern and camp store. You can swim, canoe, paddle board, play mini golf or participate in arts and crafts. I didn't want to leave. I felt like I had my family with me at summer camp.
We stayed in the mountain view treetops. Amazing views!
The camp is over 600 acres so I highly suggest renting a golf cart.
I fell in love all over again and already have another trip booked next month.
